Just Faith

Just Faith is a 28-week comprehensive journey through justice. The course aims to reacquaint adult Catholics with their faith through interactive programs on a weekly basis. Topics range from global issues to scriptural bases for structural change in society.

No other curriculum will offer such a significant opportunity to apply Catholic principles to real-life situations and to interact with fellow parishioners, friends and family.

Just Faith meets from 6:30-8:30pm each Wednesday (meeting dates and times are subject to change). Cost is approximately $150/person for books. Just Faith generally starts in September. To enroll, email Aline Haynes at haynesa@comcast.net.

Bible Study
The word “Psalm” means “song.” The biblical book of Psalms contains the words of 150 songs. Some are songs of Praise; others are songs of Exaltation, Thanksgiving and Lamentation. There are also “Wisdom Songs” and songs about Kings. In those Books of the bible that are called “the Law and the Prophets,” God reaches out to humans. In the Book of Psalms, humans reach out to God; that is, they pray. Centuries ago, God’s chosen people sang these prayers before the Lord. The prayers they sang were written in the Book of Psalms and now many of our songs at mass are based on them. The Book of Psalms has rightly been called “a school of prayer”.

In spring 2008, St. Paul’s Bible Study Groups will read and discuss 28 of the 150 songs in the Book of Psalms. The course is called “Psalms I,” and consists of only 6 meetings.

A daytime group meets at 10 am, and an evening group meets at 7:30 pm. The meeting generally lasts one and a half hours. Both groups cover the same lesson on the same day (so you can even alternate groups, going to one or the other in the same week).

The first meetings will take place on Wednesday, February 27th, and barring cancellations due to weather, the sixth and final meeting of the semester to be on April 2nd. Course materials include a Commentary Booklet, a Study guide and Lecture Transcripts. The cost of materials is $11.00. It will also be helpful if you have a bible of your own because many of the Discussion Questions refer to other sections of the Bible which are not included in the Commentary or Study Guide.
