St. Paul's Career/Networking Group
About the group
Scared? Depressed? Without resources? Losing a job means more than losing your income. It can also mean losing your confidence, social network, and friends. It puts a strain on your family as well, as they too struggle to deal with uncertainty, limited finances, and the jobseeker's needs and moods.

Did you know that most jobs come not from want ads or employment firms, but from leads passed on by other people? Establishing a network of people who pass on job leads and provide you with recommendations can make all the difference between a quick and successful job search and a long and fruitless one. SPNG believes there are six steps in the job-search journey:

  1. Determine who you are and what you value
  2. Build a resume based on those values as well as your skills and experience
  3. Research and target the industries requiring your skills and experience
  4. Learn how to network into those targeted companies using technology and face-to-face meetings
  5. Learn how to differentiate yourself during the interview by using a behavior-based process
  6. Negotiate and close the deal

The St. Paul Networking Group has been discontinued. However, the Yahoo group that was established (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SPCPNG/) will continue to operate. In addition, St. Gregory the Great has re-started its own network group. Their information follows.

Are you:

  • In transition?
  • About to be in transition?
  • Looking for new career opportunities?
  • Looking to help friends, neighbors, and colleagues who are out of work?
